The Cry O' Launcher is a weapon and tool inspired by the Fallout and Metro franchises. I wanted to recreate Adam Adamowicz's original concept of the Rock-It Launcher from Fallout 3. It's a weapon that can use basically anything as ammunition, by grinding it down and launching the debris towards enemies. This project also involves collaboration with a Technical Artist student, Isabelle Neuman.

Our collaboration started with a lot of back and forth on what project we wanted to make. I would create the model and textures, and she'd add animation and VFX. We were inspired by making a similar effect as the GLOO Cannon from Prey, in which shoots goop that solidifies and creates traversable platforms for the player. After a lot of discussion we ended up going for going for a weapon that would launch chunks of ice by chucking liquid nitrogen cannisters into the chamber.

When doing a breakdown of the concept, I realized it didn't look the same. My original intent was for the weapon to work in a first-person perspective. While blocking out the weapon I also understood why they've made the changes that they did, as the original is quite chunky and a lot of the player's view would be obscured by the weapon itself.

I wanted to keep the spirit of the original, while also adding my own artistic touches and solutions to the problems I faced. I took a lot of inspiration from various farmer and household tools. I wanted it to appear homemade, but still made with intent by someone who is handy and experienced in building things from nothing.

I spent a month on creating this project.
Huge thanks to all my lovely classmates and teachers for providing feedback and pushing me forward.
